Overcoming the expected is always a significant challenge for any designer. Looking beyond preconceived expectations, which are often based on a perceived acceptance of an existing design, yields better design.

The ability to look at a problem from a different vantage point and discover a solution with a fresh and unencumbered perspective moves the world forward. Of course, some things are a certain way for a reason. But sometimes things are a certain way because they've always been that way. The key is recognizing the difference. The same holds true for the design of convention centers. A fresh perspective can make the attendee experience better, the building operations more efficient, and the role of the facility within its community stronger. Designs for the following convention centers overcome the ''accepted expected'' by taking a new approach to a number of different design issues.
