HOK Venue's design of America's Center was meant to complement downtown St. Louis. The materials of the Center reinterpret its historic surroundings. Brick is accented with ornamental terra cotta panels and cast stone treatments, reminiscent of surrounding architecture, most notably the Wainwright building by architect Louis Sullivan. Columns and three-story windows mirror the verticality of neighboring structures. The copper dome shape and main entrance rotunda symbolize the old post office building and historic courthouse, among the city's most revered buildings. Metal fan-shaped awnings grace the lower level.
