Occupying an 11.5-acre redevelopment site in downtown San Francisco, the Moscone Convention Center provides predominantly underground space for convention, meeting and exhibition use. The main exhibit hall is supported by braced concrete arches spanning 280 feet and a sky lit three-tiered entrance lobby connecting the exhibit hall with meeting rooms and related facilities. The center's innovative rooftop includes the Yerba Buena Gardens which opened in 1993. The requirement for subsurface development was mandated by voters in a public referendum, and construction was completed on a fast-track schedule.
