  • Phoenix, Arizona, USA
  • Completion: 2008

The multi-phased expansion and renovation of the Phoenix Convention Center establishes a distinct architectural expression based on Arizona's native land forms. Reminiscent of the area's striated stone canyons and valleys, the building's massing and exteriors imply that it has risen out of the ground.

The design seeks to minimize the impact of the structure by locating the exhibition halls underground and above the street level, lowering the building height. A second hall above street level creates an opportunity to articulate the street level experience with retail, ballroom entrances and public atriums that re-open connections throughout the city.

Phase I of the project opened in 2006, with Phase II scheduled for 2008 completion
