Richard joined HOK Sport in 1997, as a member of the design team for ANZ Stadium (formerly Telstra Stadium) and the overlay masterplan for the Sydney Olympic Park precinct, which incorporated 12 venues hosting 17 Olympic and 14 Paralympic sports. In 1999 Richard became part of the team working with the Melbourne 2006 Bid Company to establish overlay requirements and a preliminary cost plan for their successful bid for the 2006 Commonwealth Games, after which he joined the London office of HOK Sport.

Richard was Project Manager on the 65,000 seat Estadio da Luz and the 30,000 seat Estadio Algarve in Portugal for the Euro 2004 Championships, and was part of the design team for the Oval Lingotto, speed skating venue for the 2006 Winter Games in Turin.

Currently, Richard is working on the new Wembley Stadium in London where he is responsible for design development within the stadium, acting as the liaison between the design team and the client operational team. In this demanding role, he ensures the initial operational, architectural and financial intent is followed through in the actual construction of the new Wembley Stadium.
